Milwaukee Torrent USL Youth

The Milwaukee Torrent started fielding boys and girls teams in USL Youth (previously known as the Super Y League) beginning in 2021, and Oregon SC is pleased to be able to offer our players the opportunity to be a part of the program.

The summer league has more than 10,000 players and 500 teams across the country, but the Torrent are one of only two Wisconsin clubs to field teams in USL Youth.

The Torrent collaborate with youth clubs to form their USL Youth teams, which plays in the league’s Midwest Division along with clubs from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

The USL Youth league season runs from June to August, a time of year when most state clubs — including Oregon SC — don’t offer training or league play.

"We're thrilled to be able to offer interested players an option to train at a high level and play competitive soccer during the summer," Oregon SC president Eric Anderson said. "The Milwaukee Torrent USL Youth program gives players from our area the opportunity to play with kids from different clubs and other parts of the state, and to experience different coaches and coaching styles."

TORRENT USL YOUTH Q-AND-A

Q: What is USL Youth?
A: Previously known as the Super Y League, the youth league was founded in 1999 and now features more than 10,000 players, more than 500 teams and more than 100 clubs across the U.S. It is run by the United Soccer League, which also operates two professional leagues — the USL Championship (the country’s second division) and the third-division USL League One — in addition to the pre-professional USL League Two.

Q: What teams will the Torrent field in USL Youth?
A:
Details on 2024 teams will be determined based on player interest.  Tryouts for players born in 2005 through 2009 were scheduled for Jan. 7, 2024, at the Elkhorn High School Indoor Center.

Q: Can players be registered for both the Torrent USL Youth teams and their local club teams (including Oregon SC)?
A:
Yes.

Q: Who will coach the Torrent teams?
A:
The 2024 coaches will be announced at a later date. The coaches will work with Torrent owner Andreas Davi, the club’s USL Youth Director of Coaching.

Q: How often will the teams practice?
A:
Teams will train two or three times per week at Wales Community Park. Practices will begin in June 2024.

Q: When is the season? How many games will the Torrent teams play?
A:
Games will be played in June, July and August.

Teams also can earn spots at the USL Youth National Finals, which are in December in Tampa, Fla. — the Torrent have had teams qualify for nationals each of the past three years. The league also scouts players throughout the season and 70 of the top players are invited to participate in the annual USL Experience. The event features training sessions and matches watched by college, professional and U.S. Soccer scouts.

Q: What is included in the season fees?
A:
Two Hummel jerseys (home/away), 1 pair of shorts, 2 pairs of socks (home/away), Hummel practice jersey, league fees/bond, coaching fees, field rental fees, referee fees, player registration fees (includes U.S. Soccer Federation registration), secondary insurance ($0 deductible) and a 2024 season ticket for all Torrent men's and women's home games. The club also hopes to be able to award scholarships to selected players from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee Community Learning Center to participate on USL Youth teams through its Milwaukee Torrent Community Foundation.
