Help Make the Oregon Soccer Fall Fury a Success: Volunteers Needed

The Oregon Soccer Fall Fury tournament is coming up fast, and I want to thank all the people that have stepped up to volunteer so far.

This tournament cannot happen every year without the help of the soccer community. We have 120 teams coming to play this weekend in Oregon and Brooklyn and are looking forward to providing them a quality experience.

We are off to a great start for volunteers, but are still looking for more. We are looking to fill 363 volunteer time slots in total for the weekend. But as of Tuesday night, only 236 of those slots were filled - that is only 65% of the total spots needed with just a few days until the tournament kicks off Friday night.

Our biggest area of need is Field Marshals. This is a vital position, but also one that is easy to learn. Here is a brief breakdown of the duties:

  1. Check in by radio to the main tent.
  2. Collect player cards and/or roster from each coach or team manager
  3. Coordinate with the referees as to when they are going to do the team equipment check
  4. After referee performs equipment check, call out each player as they verify that player matches the player pass
  5. Be sure that the roster sheet is stamped approved by the registration tent and that it matches the player cards
  6. Go back to your chair (chair not provided) by your Field Marshal Tent and enjoy the game
  7. After game is finished, give player cards and roster back to coach or team managers
  8. Have referee fill out final score on game card and have them sign it (Needed for referee payments)
  9. Other miscellaneous documentation if needed for red cards, injuries, etc. (rare occurrences)

There is a Field Marshal meeting on Thursday at 5:30pm at the Jaycee Park Shelter, where you can learn more about the role and ask questions. Or, you can stop at the Registration Tent on Friday and get a brief tutorial if you're unable to attend Thursday's meeting.

We encourage all parents to help out when available - and players Under-14 and older, too, as we know that many high school students are looking for volunteer hours. Just one 2-hour shift will help us a lot. Also, you can schedule your shifts around your children's games so you don't miss any of the action.

The Fall Fury is Oregon Soccer Club's main fundraising event for the year, and proceeds from the tournament help us keep registration fees down, maintain fields and fund scholarships for children whose families need financial assistance to play soccer.
