Do you have any extra soccer cleats or other equipment taking up space on a shelf or an unused soccer jersey hanging in a closet or sitting in a dresser?

If so, we ask that you bring them with you to the Oregon Soccer Fall Fury, which is Oct. 1-3, and donate them to our Jersey and Equipment Drive for 1000 Cleats.

We will have a collection area near the main registration tent at Jaycee Park. The Oregon High School boys soccer program also will collect donations at its varsity quadrangular on Oct. 1 at the concession stand at Huntoon Field.

The items collected will be given to Alice Apo, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by Oregon SC coach Edward Ogodogu. In addition to other community outreach projects in his native Nigeria, the group puts on the 1000 Cleats youth soccer tournament each year in Jos in the country's Middle Belt. (Watch video from a previous tournament below)

His goal is to be able to give at least one piece of soccer equipment to each of the approximately 200 players who will play in this year's fifth annual tournament, tentatively scheduled for December 2021. The top three teams in the event receive tokens, which the kids can use to buy school supplies.

Oregon SC and OHS are thrilled to partner with Ogodogu, who coaches our 2010 Girls Orange team, and 1000 Cleats to collect donations for this great cause. Soccer jerseys and cleats are the primary needs, but most any soccer equipment will be accepted - however, please do not bring soccer balls, which cannot be accepted.

If you have questions about the program, contact Ogodogu at orishejol@gmail.com.
