Every so often, we see and read reports of soccer players or referees collapsing on the field due to heart attacks or other cardiac-related issues. Most recently was the high-profile case of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen during a European Championship match last month.
Thankfully, we haven't heard of any such situations during Oregon SC games recently, but they have happened on soccer fields in the Madison area and throughout Wisconsin, sometimes with heartbreaking results. Obviously, this can happen anytime and anywhere without warning.
In these cases, someone nearby knowing CPR could mean the difference between life and death for a player, coach, referee or spectator.
Oregon SC would like to help increase the number of people in our club and our community who are trained in CPR, so we're once again working with the Oregon Area Fire/EMS District to offer free CPR training classes. These 1-hour sessions are being held in the ambulance bay at the Oregon Fire Department and do not include official certification.
