2024 Grassroots Referee Recertification courses are now available in the U.S. Soccer Learning Center. Register now

Referees who were registered in 2022 or 2023 are eligible for this recertification course. All of the course content is in the Learning Center for this registration period — there are no in-person or virtual components required for 2024 recertification.

All referees who are 18 or older are required to maintain a current status in the Learning Center for your background check and SafeSport. All referees also need to be updated on the Safe & Healthy Playing Environment course, also in the Learning Center.

The course costs $70 for referees 17 and younger and $100 for those 18 and older.

However, referees who officiated 10 or more MAYSA league games in 2023 can receive a $65 bonus upon completion of the recertification course. MAYSA Referee Recertification Bonus Request Form

A reminder that referees who took in-person courses in Summer 2023 are already certified through 2024.

After you have completed the requirements in the Learning Center, your 2024 badge will be mailed to you and you will be enabled in the new Ref Insight platform for 2024 assignments.

Instead of in-person or virtual components for recertification, WisRef reminds referees of their points of emphasis for the past few years:

  • 2020: What You Allow, You Encourage, along with Pay It Forward. In effect, deal with the problem or it gets worse, and take appropriate action, so that problem does not make a less-experienced referee quit.
  • 2021: Completing incident reports properly. A higher quality of information in incident reports allows WYSA to more quickly and more appropriately issue sanctions for offenses. Good incident reports will have details on when, who, what, where, how and how the game was restarted, all factually based.
  • 2022 and 2023:  Behavior of coaches and referee interaction with coaches. Every time a coach stands and voices an opinion might not rise to a warning, caution or send off. It depends on how they do it, how often they do it and the exact wording they use.
